Nicholas Caro traveled abroad teaching LASIK to physicians in China and Germany. When the FDA approved clinical test sites for LASIK in the United States, Nicholas Caro's St. George Corrective Vision Center was one of the first in the Chicago area. Many Chicago area physicians came to the center to train under Dr Nick Caro.
     

Nicholas Caro has invented several instruments, including the Caro Lasik cornea marker, Caro Lasik flap elevator and the Caro Lasik smoother to treat flap irregularities following Lasik surgery, that refractive surgeons around the country use in performing LASIK.

Nicholas Caro also holds several medical patents and continues to research new ways to help patients improve the quality of their lives.
     

In 1991, Nicholas Caro opened the St George Corrective Vision Center, the Midwest's first facility devoted solely to refractive surgery. At that time Radial Keratotomy or RK, was the most widely accepted procedure to correct mildly nearsighted individuals. But as technology expanded the treatment options, Dr. Nick Caro's research demonstrated that LASIK provided better, consistent outcomes, especially for patients who were not candidates for RK.
     

After receiving his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, in Milwaukee, Nicholas Caro completed an internship and ophthalmology residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. In 1985 he continued his training in refractive surgery at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary and continually updates his medical education at approved ophthalmology meetings.
